Visa Requirements

The Embassy accepts walk-in applications, and almost all applicants require personal interview. With limited exceptions, nonimmigrant visa applicants aged 14 to 79 are required to have an interview with a U.S. consular officer.

No appointment is needed to apply for a visa; applications for non-immigrant visas are accepted on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, from 9:00 am until 11:30 am.

Categories of Applicants Exempt from Personal Interviews

· Applicants for diplomatic visas (A, G, and NATO visas);
· Applicants under 14; and
· Applicants over 79

Applying for a visa:

The following is a list of forms and documents that all nonimmigrant visa applications, with the exception of A and G visa applicants, are required to furnish. It is important to check the relevant section for the additional documents required when applying for a specific category of visa. Failure to include the additional documents and forms will result in the application being denied.

All nonimmigrant visa applicants, even children and babies listed in parents' passports, are required to:

· Complete online, print, and bring print, and bring with you the visa application form DS-156;
· Pay a visa application fee;
· Present a valid passport valid for at least six months beyond the holder's period of stay in the United States;
· Provide one photograph, which meet State Department regulations.
· Males aged 16 to 45 are required to complete a Supplemental nonimmigrant visa application, form DS-157. This form must be completed regardless of nationality or place of residence.
· All applicants applying for student visa (F or M) or exchange visitor visa (J or Q) are required to complete a Contact information and work history form DS-158.

Additionally, some types of visas require additional documentation:

Student Visas applicants should submit an original Form I-20 (issued by the school or institution). Note. Student with I-20 forms with an issued date of September 1, 2004 or later, also need to submit proof of payment of the SEVIS service charge (Form I-901).

Exchange visitor visa applicants should submit an original Form DS-2019 (issued by the agency sponsoring the exchange program). Note. Exchange visitor visa applicants with DS-2019 forms with an issued date of September 1, 2004 or later, also need to submit proof of payment of the SEVIS service charge (Form I-901).

Temporary work visa applicants should submit Form I-797 (copy A or B) showing an approval of their petition by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
