Introductory Conference on Trafficking in Persons and Organized Crime for Students, November 15-16, 2007, Ljubljana
U.S. Embassy Ljubljana was the largest donor for a two-day conference on organized crime with emphasis on Trafficking In Persons (TIP). The conference was organized for an audience of students at the University of Ljubljana. The event gathered eight speakers from key institutions dealing with this issue, including representatives from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, College of Police and Security Studies, NGOs and media.
The goals were to raise awareness about the trafficking in persons issue, to discuss possible solutions to improve the situation, and how to assist TIP victims.
Albert Kraaimoore, POL/MIL officer at U.S. Embassy Ljubljana, presented U.S. Government policies regarding TIP issues and talked about the Trafficking in Persons Report. This year's TIP report ranked Slovenia "Tier 1" for the first time. Tier 1 is comprised of the countries that have a serious trafficking problem but fully comply with the act’s minimum standards for the elimination of trafficking.
