Under Secretary of the Air Force Visits Slovenia
June 1 - 2, 2007, Ljubljana, Cerklje, OtoÄ?ec and Bled
Under Secretary of the Air Force Dr. Ronald M. Sega visited Slovenia on June 1 and 2 for meetings with Prime Minister Janez Janša, Minister of Defense Karl Erjavec, and Chief of Defense Lt. Gen. Albin Gutman. During the meetings Sega expressed the appreciation for the "sacrifice and hard work" of the Slovenian Armed Forces in peacekeeping operations and other activities in various parts of world and discussed current and future plans for military cooperation between the U.S. and Slovenia. In addition to meetings at the Ministry of Defense, Sega visited the Slovenian Armed Forces air base in Cerklje ob Krki and the Jožef Stefan Institute in Ljubljana. On Saturday Prime Minister Janez Janša hosted Under Secretary Sega for lunch at Lake Bled.
As Under Secretary, Sega is responsible for all actions of the Air Force on behalf of the Secretary of the Air Force oversees the recruiting, training and equipping of approximately 700,000 people and a budget of approximately $110 billion. As the Department of Defense Executive Agent for Space, dr. Sega develops, coordinates and integrates plans and programs for space systems and the acquisition of all DoD space major defense acquisition programs. Sega is a former astronaut and is of Slovenian descent.
