Second Passports
Current regulations prohibit the possession of more than one valid or potentially valid U.S. passport at any one time, unless under circumstances specifically authorized by the Secretary of State. The only justification considered for issuance of a second valid passport is an urgent need for international travel while the bearer's full validity passport is unavailable due to visa processing at other embassies.
Since September 26, 2005, it is no longer possible to extend a bearer's second passport; you must apply for a new one by following the instructions below. Second passports have a standard validity of only two years.
Note: You are required to present your valid full-validity passport in order to apply for a second passport. If you are unable to do this because your passport is already being processed for a visa at another office, then you may not apply for a second passport.
Application Procedures
In order to apply for a second passport, you must come in person to the Embassy. As there is only one passport officer in Ljubljana, please click here to make an appointment.
We transmit all the information electronically to a passport production facility in Charleston, South Carolina, and receive the printed passports back by express courier service about two weeks later.
