America Days successfully launched in Grosuplje with opening of John Antone sculpture exhibit
On March 11, America Days officially kicked off with the grand opening of an exhibit of new works by American sculptor John Antone. His sculptures, inspired by nature, depict trees with birds and houses almost floating in the branches, their delicate forms making it hard to belive that they are made of bronze. The exhibit is displayed at the library in Grosuplje, a beautiful building blending modern and 19th century architecture that has won many awards, including the coveted Plečnik award. The show opened with speeches by the Mayor of Grosuplje, Mr. Janez Lesjak, as well as U.S. Chargé d'Affaires Maryruth Coleman and the sculptor himself. The gallery was crowded with people coming to see the work, a testament to the importance of art in Slovenia, which is the reason we are hosting America Days this month.
