Deputy Public Affairs Officer Meaghan Monfort and Public Affairs intern Galen Englund visited the Bilingual High School in Lendava, just a step away from the Hungarian border. Students here speak Slovenian and Hungarian fluently, as well as English and some also learn German and Spanish.
After a fantastic lunch of regional dishes with several teachers, Ms. Monfort and Mr. Englund spoke with students, first introducing themselves and their roles at the Embassy. More than 40 students were eager to get more information about Meaghan and Galen's home country, U.S. education, study abroad opportunities in the U.S., racism, immigration, high school exchanges, their thoughts on Slovenia and many more. The students also quizzed Meaghan on her Slovene language skills--and she passed with a boisterous round of applause. The entire Embassy team had fun with such a great and enthusiastic audience.
