State Department sponsored jazz group perform at a retirement home and at a shelter for abused women, March 19, Ljubljana
As a part of America Days, The Chris Byars Quartet, who are part of Jazz at Lincoln Center, came to Ljubljana to perform two concerts for the public. While here the group also paid a visit to a local retirement home as well as a local shelter for abused women and children. They played for an audience of more than 100 Slovenian retirees. Several of the residents chatted with the musicians afterwards, reminiscing about the 1930s and 1940s when jazz became popular. Many of the residents remembered when the old songs were new to the clubs and radios. The group also performed at a local shelter for abused women and children. The kids danced to the music, and later their mothers quizzed the group about the realities of life in New York City.
