National Philharmonic Orchestra Perform New Year’s Concert, Ljubljana, January 12, 2007
In a New Year’s concert of international cultural cooperation, Principal Cellist of the US National Symphony Orchestra David Hardy, the Slovene National Philharmonic Orchestra, and Japanese conductor Toshihiro Yonezu performed at the Philharmonic. The concert featured the European premier of American composer Stephen Jaffe’s Cello Concerto, a composition written especially for Hardy, as well as Mozart’s Symphony No. 40. Present at the concert were hundreds of alumni of US Government exchange programs, American Chamber of Commerce members and guests, musicians and music lovers.
Mr. Hardy also performed a chamber orchestra concert with Lisa Emenheiser Sarratt, Adjunct Pianist of the National Symphony Orchestra, at the Ambassador’s Residence on January 10. The concert featured Beethoven’s Seven Variations on the theme “Bei Männern, welche Liebe fühlen” from Mozart’s “Magic Flute,” and Edvard Grieg’s Sonata for Violoncello and Piano in A minor, Op. 36.
