U.S. EMBASSY LJUBLJANA IS PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE
THE OPENING OF THE COMPETITION FOR THE FOLLOWING FULBRIGHT RELATED PROGRAMS, FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2012-13

Application Deadline is June 3, 2011

1. Up to four (or more, depending upon availability of funding) one-semester Fulbright Scholar Program awards in any field of study to lecture or conduct research (applicants must have Ph.D., M.D. or equivalent degree at Ph.D. level or be an M.D. working towards their Ph.D. at the time of application submission) http://www.cies.org/vs_scholars/vs_awards/.

2. Up to two (or more, depending upon availability of funding) Fulbright Student grants in any field of study to conduct research for a period of nine months. At the time of the application submission applicants must have Master’s Degree or be enrolled in Ph.D. studies at their home institutions. Under this category candidates cannot enroll in a degree seeking program.

3. The worldwide competition for the FY 2012 International Fulbright Science and Technology Award for outstanding foreign students. The International Fulbright Science and Technology award is for Ph.D. study at top U.S. institutions in science, technology, or engineering. Up to 40 awards will be available worldwide for candidates who demonstrate unique aptitude and innovation in scientific fields. 4. The worldwide competition for Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program which brings accomplished mid-level professionals to the United States for one academic year of graduate-level “non-degree” academic coursework and professional development activities. Humphrey Fellows pursue tailored study programs at participating host institutions. Approximately 15 campuses have been selected through a competitive process to host fellows in groups with significant thematic and subject affinities.

Eligible fields: agricultural development/agricultural economics; communications/journalism; substance abuse education, treatment and prevention; economic development/finance and banking; educational administration, planning and policy; HIV/AIDS policy and prevention; human resource management; law and human rights; natural resources, environmental policy and climate change; public health policy and management; public policy analysis and public administration; teaching English as a Foreign Language; technology policy and management; trafficking in person, policy and prevention; urban and regional planning.

Fulbright Program

The Fulbright Program was established in 1946 and is sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the United States Department of State. Approximately 294,000 "Fulbrighters," 111,000 from the United States and 183,000 from other countries, have participated in the Program since its inception more than sixty years ago. The Fulbright Program awards approximately 7,500 new grants annually, and operates in over 155 countries worldwide. It is the U.S. Government’s most prestigious program for academic exchange.

Fulbright Awards in Slovenia

The Slovenian Fulbright Program sends approximately six to eight Slovenian scholars and students to the U.S. each year and brings approximately six to eight American scholars and students to Slovenia. The program is co-sponsored by the Slovenian Government.

Fulbright Scholarships are awarded competitively to Slovenian citizens who wish to conduct research or lecture at American universities, and are subject to the availability of funds. The minimum requirements to apply are:

  • Slovenian citizenship and evidence of employment in the Republic of Slovenia

  • Proficiency in English appropriate to the proposed research project to be carried out inthe United States

  • Completed application package

Preference is given to candidates without recent experience in the United States. Recipients of Fulbright Scholarships within the past 5 years will not be considered. Persons who are citizens of both Slovenia and the United States are also ineligible.

Fulbright grantees enter the United States on an exchange visitor (J-1) visa under a Department of State program, which requires them to return to their home countries for a minimum of two years at the end of the grant period.
