ELECTRONIC SYSTEM FOR TRAVEL AUTHORIZATION (ESTA)
All Visa Waiver travelers must apply for and obtain ESTA authorization prior to traveling to the United States. In other words, all Slovene citizens, who are traveling to the U.S. without a visa, must complete the online ESTA registration process. An ESTA clearance is valid for two years. If you fail to obtain ESTA approval, you likely will not be allowed to board your plane to the U.S. We recommend completing the ESTA process at least 72 hours prior to the start of your travels.
If you have a visa to visit the United States or posses a Canadian passport, you do not need ESTA – it is purely for individuals traveling under the Visa Waiver Program. If your ESTA application is denied and you still wish to travel to the U.S., you will need to apply for a non-immigrant visa here at the Embassy. Non-immigrant visa applications are processed by appointment only. Please see our section on “Application Procedures & Fees" for complete instructions
How to Apply for ESTA
You will need to finish all five of the following steps to acquire ESTA authorization. Please note that you have to pay the $14 ESTA fee before your application is processed.
Step 1: Complete Your Application
Please go to the ESTA website. Click the "Apply" button on the bottom left. You need to enter all mandatory fields indicated by a red asterisk.
Step 2: Review and Submit Your Application
Please confirm that all your data is accurate. After reviewing all the information, you will need to enter your passport number for verification. Please enter the text from the image screen, then click the "Apply" button.
Step 3: Record Your Application Number
Please write down your Application Number or print the page. Your Application Number will be required if you want to check on the status of your application. Then click the "Next" button.
Step 4: Pay the Fee
Please click the "Pay" button to proceed to the online payment form. You will be required to enter your credit card information. Mandatory Fields are: account holder’s first and last name, billing address, country, credit card type, credit card number, expiration date, and security code. Please confirm that you have entered the correct information and click the "Submit Payment" button.
ALERT: If the website is charging you more than $14, it is not a U.S. government website. Third party websites that provide information about ESTA and submit ESTA applications for VWP travelers are not endorsed by, associated with, or affiliated in any way with DHS or the U.S. government. If the website does not end in “.gov,” it is not the official ESTA website. Use of a private service to apply for ESTA will not expedite the granting of approval, so we recommend using the official ESTA website.
Step 5: View Your Application Status
In most cases, you will receive one of three responses within seconds. If you receive "Authorization Approved", you can travel to the U.S. under the Visa Waiver Program. You may want to print out this page for your records. If you receive "Authorization Pending", it means your application is under review. Please check back on the ESTA website at a later time to receive a final response. If you receive "Travel Not Authorized", you will need to apply for a visa at the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate.
The Embassy is not able to check the status of an ESTA application as we do not have access to the ESTA database. If you are not sure if your ESTA request has been approved, please return to the ESTA website and enter your application, passport information and date of birth on the bottom right side of the screen.
