Envelopes & Postage

Beginning April 1, 2007, all visa applicants must bring with them to the interview an A5-size padded envelope (podložena kuverta) affixed with appropriate postage from Pošta Slovenija.  We will use this envelope to mail your passport with the visa inside.  In most cases, we will mail the passport on the next business day following your successful visa interview.

Visa applicants will be permitted to return to the Embassy to collect their passports in person only in the case of emergency travel, such as for medical treatment.

The postage rates below are calculated based upon the weight of the passport(s) plus the A5-size padded envelope.  We recommend this type of envelope for document security reasons.

Please clearly write or type on the envelope your name and the address to which you want your passport mailed.

For the location of the nearest Slovene post office, please see the web site of Pošta Slovenija.

For guidance on the amount of Slovene postage to affix, please see below.

Mailing within Slovenia

1 passport  -- €1.10
2-5 passports  -- €1.50

Mailing to Any Country Other Than Slovenia

1 passport -- €4.26
2-5 passports -- €5.72

Is It Safe?

Yes.  We have sent both U.S. and Slovene passports through the mail for several years and have not lost a passport yet.

Maximum delivery times, according to Pošta Slovenija:

Within Slovenia: 3 business days
To Austria or Croatia: 5 business days
To Hungary: 8 business days
To Italy: 10 business days

Pošta Slovenija informs us that normally delivery should take place to all destinations within three business days, with the exception of Italy, which should normally take six to seven business days.

If you do not receive your passport within the maximum time frames specified above, then please call us at the number in the Key Information box above.  We can use a tracking number provided by Pošta Slovenija to trace the envelope with your passport in it, should the need arise.
