Emergency Passport Services

It normally takes two weeks to obtain a full-validity passport. If you are traveling within two weeks, and if you can provide proof of this travel in the form of a paid travel itinerary, then you may apply for an emergency limited-validity passport, which cannot be extended. In most cases, we can issue an emergency passport within one or two hours. You must apply in person for this service. Please click here to make an appointment. Please note that we are not able to issue an emergency passport outside of regular business hours.

For instructions on how to apply, please select your specific application type (Lost & Stolen Passport, First Time Applicant, or Renewing Your Passport) from the choices on the left hand side of the screen. The application requirements (including the fees) for emergency passports are the same as those for full-validity passports, except that a self-addressed and stamped envelope will not be required for return delivery.

Renewing an emergency passport for a full-validity passport

Although you will pay us for a full-validity passport, the emergency passport we will issue to you will only be valid long enough to cover your current proposed travel, plus a little bit of extra time, just in case.  When your travel is completed, you will submit another application for a full-validity passport, but you will not have to pay the fee again, because you will have already paid it to the Embassy.  However, you must apply for a full-validity passport while the emergency passport is still valid.

You will have to submit another application form, two more passport photos, and the emergency passport.  If you lose the emergency passport, or if you do not apply for the full-validity passport while the emergency passport is still valid, then you will have to pay the application fee again.

If you live in Slovenia, then you will submit your application for a full-validity to the Embassy in Ljubljana; for instructions please click here.

If you live outside the U.S. but not in Slovenia, then you will submit your application for a full-validity passport to the U.S. Embassy or Consulate where you reside.

If you live in the United States, then you will submit your application for a full-validity passport to the following address:
