Dual Nationality
In the 1980's, the Supreme Court ruled that U.S. citizenship is a constitutional right that cannot be taken away from a citizen who does not intend to relinquish it. Therefore, such acts as naturalization in a foreign country, travel on a foreign passport, employment with a foreign government, and voting in a foreign election do not automatically jeopardize American citizenship. However, please note that all U.S. citizens, even dual nationals, must enter and depart the United States using their U.S. passports.
Slovene law permits a Slovene citizen to acquire another citizenship and thereby become a dual national. However, Slovene law also requires a citizen of another country to first formally renounce that other citizenship before becoming a Slovene citizen, with very few exceptions. There is a legal process to renounce your U.S. citizenship, if you wish to do so. Please contact us using any of the means listed in the Key Information box to inquire about this matter.
