MAP and Directions to the Embassy
Highway vignettes are obligatory for all vehicles with the permissible maximum weight of 3,500 kg on motorways and expressways in Slovenia. A one-year vignette costs EUR 55; a half-year vignette costs EUR 35; for motorcycles, the one-year vignette is EUR 27,50 and the half-year vignette is EUR 17,50.
A one-year vignette for the current year is valid from December 1st of the previous year to January 31st of the next year (a total of 14 months). The half-year vignette is valid for six months following the day of its purchase.
Using motorways and expressways without a valid and properly-displayed vignette in a vehicle is considered a violation of the law, and violators may be fined between EUR 300 and 800. In addition to this fine, a new sticker must be purchased and displayed on the vehicle.
Vignettes can be purchased in Slovenia at petrol stations, newsstands, automobile clubs, Post offices “Posta Slovenije”, some toll stations and also at petrol stations in neighboring countries.
Directions from Kranj:
* Drive onto the A2 southeast towards Ljubljana
* You will approach Ljubljana from the northwest on the high way.
* At the bottom of the exit ramp, take a left onto Celovška cesta;
* After about 6 km, take a right at the light onto Tivolska cesta;
* After maybe 0.50 km, take a left at the light onto Šubiceva ulica;
* Go straight through the light and the paid parking lot will be on your right.
To walk from the parking lot to the Embassy:
* Walk out of the parking lot and turn left, back up Šubiceva, the same way you just drove in;
* At the light, cross the street and turn right onto Prešernova cesta;
* The Embassy is on the next corner, on your left;
* Turn left onto Tomšiceva ulica. The public entrance is down a bit on your left.
Directions from Maribor:
* Drive onto the A1 southwest towards Ljubljana;
* You will approach Ljubljana's Ring Road from the northeast.
* Follow the blue signs "Lj.-Kranj," which exits right to follow the ring road counterclockwise.
* Drive onto the Ring Road and take the 3rd exit marked "Lj.-Bežigrad/Center";
* At the bottom of the exit ramp, take a left onto Dunajska cesta;
* After about 6 km, take a right at the light onto Tivolska cesta;
* After maybe 1 km, take a left at the light onto Šubiceva ulica;
* Go straight through the light and the paid parking lot will be on your right.
To walk from the parking lot to the Embassy:
* Walk out of the parking lot and turn left, back up Šubiceva, the same way you just drove in;
* At the light, cross the street and turn right onto Prešernova cesta;
* The Embassy is on the next corner, on your left;
* urn left onto Tomšiceva ulica. The public entrance is down a bit on your left.
Directions from Koper:
* Drive onto the A1 southwest towards Ljubljana;
* You will approach Ljubljana's Ring Road from the southwest. Follow signs "Lj.-zahod,"
which exits right to follow the ring road counterclockwise.
* Take the exit marked "Lj.-zahod/Ind. c. Vic"
* At the bottom of the exit ramp, take a right onto Tržaška cesta.
* After about 3 km, take a left at the light onto Tivolska Cesta.
* After maybe 0.75 km, take a right at the light onto Subiceva.
* Go through the light and park in the pay parking lot in the middle of the next block on your right.
To walk from the parking lot to the Embassy:
* Come out of the parking lot and turn left, walking back up Subiceva, the same way you just drove in.
* At the light, cross the street and turn right onto Prešernova cesta.
* The Embassy is on the next corner, on your left.
* Turn left onto Tomšiceva ulica. The entrance through the Embassy's gate is down a bit on your left.
Directions from Aviano:
* Cross into Slovenia on the A3/E70 in NE Trieste near Sežana, Slovenia.
* After maybe 10-15 minutes, merge onto the A1/E70/E61 north towards Ljubljana.
* You'll be approaching Ljubljana's Ring Road from the SW. Follow signs "Lj.-zahod," which should take you on a right exit to follow the ring road counterclockwise.
* Take the exit marked "Lj.-zahod/Ind. c. Vic"
* At the bottom of the exit ramp, take a right onto Tržaška cesta.
* After about 3 km, take a left at the light onto Tivolska Cesta.
* After maybe 0.75 km, take a right at the light onto Subiceva.
* Go through the light and park in the pay parking lot in the middle of the next block on your right.
To walk from the parking lot to the Embassy:
* Come out of the parking lot and turn left, walking back up Subiceva, the same way you just drove in.
* At the light, cross the street and turn right onto Prešernova cesta. The Embassy is on the next corner, on your left.
* Turn left onto Tomšiceva ulica. The entrance through the Embassy's gate is down a bit on your left.
* Go through security, come to the main lobby, and turn right for the Consular Section.
* Come on in and ask for American Citizen Services.
