On November 21, Charge d’Affaires Maryruth Coleman announced the awarding of $50,000 in the Ambassador's disaster relief fund to Slovenia to help the country rebuild after the extensive floods of September 17. The Embassy worked closely with the Government of Slovenia and Železniki Municipality to direct the funding, provided by USAID, to support the construction of a water pump station in Železniki. Železniki Mayor Mihael Prevc stated that the funds would be used for supply of clean water to the people of Železniki.
“The U.S. Embassy is proud of our strong ties with the people of Slovenia. Our relationship is not only diplomatic, commercial, or academic but entails mutual assistance,” CDA Coleman said.
“This assistance means a great deal to us in financial as well as moral sense,” Mayor Prevc emphasized and added: “Construction of a water pump station in Železniki is essential for supply of drinking water.”
Working with the Slovene Government and Železniki Municipality, the embassy has directed that the funding, provided by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), will support the construction of a water pump station in Železniki, the U.S. Embassy stated in a News Release. USAID’s Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance responded to 74 disasters affecting more than 173 people in 55 countries last year.
