Awards for "Splošna plovba"

On February 27, U.S. Coast Guard Captain Stan Smith (retired) presented awards to Splošna plovba International Shipping and Chartering for making four of the company's ships available in search and rescue operations as part of the U.S. Coast Guard's Automated Mutual Assistance Vessel Rescue System (AMVER).

Some 17,000 ships from over 155 nations participate in the computerized system, which tracks an average of 3,200 ships each day and alerts member ships of nearby vessels that are in need of assistance.  In 2006, the AMVER system helped to save 333 lives.
