Ambassador Robertson Meets Mayor Kangler as Part of Visit to Maribor Region, January 25-26, 2007

As part of a two-day visit to the Maribor region, Ambassador Thomas Robertson met with city officials, business leaders and students and attended a performance of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra at the Union Hall in Maribor.  On January 25, Ambassador Robertson called on the new mayor of Maribor, Franc Kangler.  Their discussions focused on the economic and commercial revival of Maribor and surroundings and the opportunities there for trade and investment with the United States.  Economic/Commercial Officer Julianna Kim joined the Ambassador on January 26 for meetings with the newly-elected mayor of HoÄ?e-Slivnica, Jože Merkuš, the Maribor Airport director Matjaž Sonc and the director of Tezno Business Park Gorazd Bende.  They learned about regional development plans for revitalizing Maribor and its surrounding municipalities through the development of the Maribor Airport, improving public infrastructure and attracting domestic and foreign businesses.
